Privacy Policy

InukshukNote is committed to protecting the privacy of everyone who visits our site. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and what choices you have under the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and British Columbia's PIPA.

Last updated: May 21, 2026. InukshukNote operates the website at mastkin.com (the "Site"). This Privacy Policy applies to all visitors of the Site and describes our practices regarding personal information in plain, accessible language. If you have questions, please contact us using the details at the end of this document.

1. What Information We Collect

Because InukshukNote is a free, account-free social entertainment platform, we collect only the minimal technical data necessary to keep the Site running and to count visits anonymously. Specifically, when your browser connects to our web server, the following items are written automatically to standard server log files:

  • Browser type and version — for example, "Chrome 124 on Android 14". This tells us which browser environments we must support and helps us diagnose rendering issues reported by visitors.
  • IP address — the numerical address assigned to your internet connection by your Internet Service Provider (ISP). IP addresses are logged in truncated form (the last octet is zeroed: e.g., 192.168.1.0 instead of 192.168.1.47) so that no individual device can be precisely identified from the log alone.
  • Visit timestamp — the date and time (UTC) of each page request, accurate to the second.
  • Referring URL — the address of the page you visited immediately before arriving at our Site, if your browser sends it.
  • HTTP status code and bytes transferred — technical metadata about whether each resource loaded successfully.

Server log files are stored on our hosting infrastructure for a maximum of 30 days, after which they are deleted automatically by a scheduled rotation process. We do not archive or copy these logs to any secondary location before deletion. We have no user accounts, no registration process, and no dashboard — so none of the information above is ever linked to a named individual in our own systems.

2. What We Do Not Collect

InukshukNote deliberately avoids collecting information that is not necessary to run a free, no-account social game. The following categories of data are never collected by us:

  • Full name or username — there is no registration form; you do not tell us who you are.
  • Email address — unless you choose to contact us directly at our support address (see Section 11). Emails you send us are kept only to reply to your enquiry and are not added to any mailing list.
  • Financial or payment data — InukshukNote is free to play. We have no payment processor, no checkout, no billing system, and no subscription fees. We never see, store, or transmit any credit card, bank, or payment information of any kind.
  • Precise geographic location — we do not use GPS APIs, cell-tower triangulation, or Wi-Fi positioning. The only location signal we may infer is province from the truncated IP address for aggregate analytics (e.g., "visits from British Columbia vs. Ontario"), and that inference is never stored against an individual.
  • Device identifiers or advertising IDs — we do not read IDFA, GAID, or any persistent device fingerprint.
  • Health or biometric data — we collect nothing of this nature.
  • Virtual credit balance — game state (your current credit tally) is stored exclusively in your browser's localStorage and is never transmitted to our servers. If you clear your browser data, the balance resets. We cannot see it, access it, or link it to you.

3. Third-Party Service Providers

Running a modern website requires loading resources from specialist third-party providers. InukshukNote uses two third-party services that may process technical data when your browser requests assets from them:

Google Analytics (Google LLC) — we load the Google Analytics measurement library to count page views and understand broad traffic patterns (e.g., which pages are most visited, which browser types are most common). Critically, we implement Google Consent Mode v2 on this Site. The GCM block at the top of every page sets analytics_storage to denied by default. This means Google Analytics does not set any tracking or advertising cookies, and does not send any personal identifiers to Google's servers, unless and until you explicitly accept analytics cookies via our cookie banner. Even then, we have not enabled Google Signals, remarketing, or any cross-site identity feature. Google's privacy policy is available at policies.google.com/privacy.

Cloudflare CDN (Cloudflare, Inc.) — Font Awesome icon fonts (loaded from cdnjs.cloudflare.com) and Bootstrap CSS (loaded from unpkg.com, which is also served via Cloudflare's network) are delivered through content-delivery network nodes. When your browser fetches these files, Cloudflare's servers receive your IP address and browser headers as part of the standard HTTP request. Cloudflare may log these requests for network-security and DDoS-mitigation purposes, subject to their own privacy policy at cloudflare.com/privacypolicy. InukshukNote does not share any additional data with Cloudflare beyond what your browser sends automatically.

Google Fonts (Google LLC) — we load the "Stardos Stencil" and "Barlow" typefaces from fonts.googleapis.com. When your browser downloads these font files, Google receives your IP address and browser headers. We use preconnect hints and the display=swap parameter to minimise load time and avoid layout shifts. Google's Fonts privacy information is at developers.google.com/fonts/faq/privacy.

We do not sell, rent, or share your information with any other third party. We do not use advertising networks, affiliate tracking pixels, or any form of cross-site profiling.

4. Cookies and Browser Storage

InukshukNote uses a small number of browser-storage mechanisms to keep the site functional across pages. We do not use any tracking or advertising cookies.

Session-functional cookies (set by InukshukNote directly):

  • ink_age_ok — set when you confirm you are 18 or older on the age-gate overlay. Value: 1. Expiry: 180 days. Purpose: so you are not shown the age gate again on subsequent visits within that period.
  • ink_ck_ok — set when you click "Accept" on the cookie consent banner. Value: 1. Expiry: 180 days. Purpose: to remember that you have reviewed and accepted our cookie notice.
  • ink_ck_no — set when you click "Decline" on the cookie consent banner. Value: 1. Expiry: 180 days. Purpose: to remember that you declined, so the banner does not keep reappearing.

localStorage mirrors: The same three values (ink_age_ok, ink_ck_ok, ink_ck_no) are also written to your browser's localStorage with a stored expiry timestamp. This mirrors the cookie values and ensures the age gate and banner remember your choice correctly even when the Site is accessed from a file:// URL or from certain mobile browsers that handle cookies inconsistently. The localStorage entries persist until you clear your browser data or the stored expiry timestamp passes (180 days).

No third-party tracking cookies are set by default. If you accept analytics via the cookie banner, Google Analytics may set its own cookies (_ga, _ga_*) subject to Google's own privacy policy; these are analytical, not advertising, cookies.

For a complete technical breakdown of all cookies this Site sets, their names, expiry periods, and purposes, please see our Cookie Policy.

5. How We Use the Information We Collect

The limited technical data we collect is used solely for the following purposes:

  • Maintaining site function — server logs let us identify errors, investigate broken pages, and confirm that the Site is loading correctly for visitors across different devices and provinces.
  • Counting visits anonymously — aggregated, anonymised traffic statistics (page views per day, most-visited pages, broad geographic distribution by province) help us understand which parts of the Site are most useful and plan improvements.
  • Remembering your age confirmation — the ink_age_ok cookie and localStorage entry ensure that visitors who have already confirmed they are 18 or older are not repeatedly interrupted by the age gate on the same device.
  • Remembering your cookie preference — the ink_ck_ok / ink_ck_no cookies and localStorage entries honour the choice you made on the cookie consent banner and prevent it from re-appearing unnecessarily.

We do not use any of this data for advertising, for building profiles of individuals, for cross-site tracking, or for any automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects on you.

6. Data Retention

We keep different categories of data for different durations, in each case limited to what is reasonably necessary:

  • Server log files — retained for a maximum of 30 days on our hosting infrastructure, then automatically deleted. No manual archiving occurs during this window.
  • Cookies set by InukshukNote — each of the three first-party cookies described in Section 4 carries a 180-day expiry set at the time it is written. After 180 days the browser discards the cookie automatically. You can also delete them at any time through your browser's settings.
  • localStorage entries — persist until you clear your browser's site data, or until the 180-day expiry timestamp stored alongside the value is exceeded, whichever comes first.
  • Support emails you send us — we keep your email and its contents only for as long as is needed to resolve your enquiry and for a reasonable period afterwards (typically 12 months) in case you follow up. We will delete them on written request.

7. Your Rights Under PIPEDA

Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) give you several rights in relation to your personal information. Because InukshukNote collects very little personal information and links none of it to a named individual in our own systems, most of these rights will have limited practical scope here — but we take them seriously and will respond to every request.

  • Right to access — you may request a copy of any personal information we hold about you. We will respond within 30 days. Where the information is in server logs, we will provide the relevant log entries identified by your IP address and approximate time window that you specify.
  • Right to correct — if you believe any information we hold is inaccurate or incomplete, you may ask us to correct it. Corrections to server log entries are technically constrained (logs are append-only), but we will annotate any record that requires correction.
  • Right to withdraw consent — consent is the basis on which we collect analytics data (beyond the minimal operational logs). You may withdraw consent at any time by declining cookies via the cookie banner or by adjusting your browser settings to block our cookies. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of any collection prior to your withdrawal.
  • Right to request deletion — you may ask us to delete personal information we hold about you. For server logs, we will schedule early deletion of the relevant log files (or anonymise the relevant entries) within 14 days of receiving your verified request. For cookies and localStorage, you can delete these yourself at any time in your browser settings — or ask us for step-by-step guidance.

To exercise any of these rights, email us at [email protected] with the subject line "Privacy Request". Please include sufficient detail (e.g., your approximate visit date and province) so that we can locate any relevant records. We will not charge a fee for reasonable requests and will respond within 30 calendar days. If you are dissatisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada at priv.gc.ca or the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for BC at oipc.bc.ca.

8. Security

InukshukNote takes reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect the information we hold:

  • HTTPS enforced — all traffic between your browser and our server is encrypted using TLS. HTTP requests are redirected to HTTPS automatically. This prevents eavesdropping on the data your browser sends to us.
  • No payment systems — because InukshukNote is entirely free and has no payment processing of any kind, there is no financial data on our servers that could be at risk.
  • No user databases — we maintain no database of user accounts, passwords, or personal profiles. There is nothing of this nature to breach.
  • Server hardening — our hosting provider applies operating-system security patches on a regular schedule. Access to server log files is restricted to authorised team members via SSH key authentication.
  • Minimal data principle — by collecting as little as possible, we reduce the impact of any hypothetical security incident. The worst-case scenario from a server log breach is exposure of truncated IP addresses and browser strings with no associated names or payment details.

No internet transmission is completely secure. While we use all reasonable means to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security. If you discover a security vulnerability on our Site, please disclose it responsibly by emailing [email protected].

9. International Transfers of Data

InukshukNote's primary web server is located in Canada. However, certain third-party service providers described in Section 3 operate globally. Google LLC is a United States company; Cloudflare, Inc. is also a United States company. When your browser requests Google Fonts, Font Awesome, Bootstrap assets, or when Google Analytics processes anonymised visit data (with your consent), that data may be processed in the United States or in other countries where those companies maintain data centres.

These transfers are governed by standard contractual clauses and other transfer mechanisms recognised under PIPEDA and applicable privacy law. We assess these providers to ensure they offer a comparable level of data protection to that required in Canada. If you have concerns about international transfers, please contact us — we are happy to explain what specific data flows to which countries.

10. Changes to This Privacy Policy

InukshukNote may update this Privacy Policy from time to time as our Site evolves or as legal requirements change. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where technically feasible, display a notice on the Site's home page for at least 14 days. We encourage you to review this page periodically.

Continuing to use the Site after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy. If you disagree with any update, you should stop using the Site and delete the cookies and localStorage entries described in Section 4 from your browser.

11. Contact Us

If you have any questions, concerns, or requests relating to this Privacy Policy or to your personal information, please contact us through any of the following channels:

We aim to respond to all privacy-related enquiries within two business days and to resolve substantive requests within the 30-day timeframe required by PIPEDA. Our response will be in the same language (English or French) that you use to contact us.
